Description

TL 9578-9678 CONEY WESTON THE STREET 2/28 The Lodge - II House, formerly a farmhouse. Early C19 front range; late C15, C16 and C17 rear; complex development: L-shaped form. 2 storeys and attics. Front range in white brick with slate roof: overhanging eaves, 4 pilasters. 5 windows: small-paned sashes in deep reveals with moulded cast iron heads to surrounds, and a similar door-head, with replaced pillars and flat pediment. 6-panel door, the top 4 panels raised and fielded; rectangular fanlight. Inside, a geometric-type stair with curved handrail and plain square balusters. Rear range timber-framed and rendered; roof with alternating bands of plain and fishscale tiles. An internal chimney-stack with a plain white brick shaft. Pierced and fluted bargeboards. Casement windows with a single bar to lights. The range parallel to the front is in 4 bays, 2 of which formed part of a medieval house, and the remaining 2 added in conjunction with the internal chimney-stack. Both halves have had their roofs raised, but the former more than the latter: good-quality plain framing visible throughout. Main beam with scroll-stops and joists set flat. At right-angles to this range, a further timber-framed section, aligned north-south, was added in the later C17. Listing NGR: TL9584778082
