HAVERHILL TL64SE BURTON END, Hazel Stub 816-1/4/35 (South East side) 19/11/93 Hazel Stub Farm (Formerly Listed as: HAZEL STUB, Burton End (South East side) Hazel Stub Farmhouse) II Hall house, now farmhouse. Hall-house c1500 with extensions of early C17, later C17 and C19; late C18 re-roofing and remodelling, and C20 restoration. L-shaped on plan: 5-bay hall house with 2-bay early C17 extension in line towards road; 2-bay later C17 extension returns at right angles to first extension: C19 extension added in line to later extension. Timber-frame encased in C18 brick, rendered and colourwashed: plain tile roofs with brick stacks, one inserted in hall range in mid C16, gable end stacks to C17 and C19 extensions. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Entrance at rear of hall range by glazed C20 door; elsewhere on ground floor are two 2-light and one 1-light metal lattice casement windows. First floor retains two C17 diamond mullioned windows, one of 5 lights, one of 4 lights, and additional fixed window to right. Gable end to right jettied on first floor with timber-framing exposed: C17 diamond mullioned window of 5 lights on each floor: inserted window in attic. 4-window front to hall range; to right, one 2/2 horned sash on each floor, elsewhere metal casements, irregularly disposed. Later extensions parallel to road have door in gable end, 8/8 unhorned sashes and inserted C20 casements. INTERIOR: good quality framing exposed in original hall house. Roofs over hall house and extension are of clasped purlin construction and incorporate some re-used timbers. This item was added to the List in the amendment of 19th November 1993 but was inacurately referred to as being an amendment to an existing entry. It is now known as Hazel Stub Farm. These have been added and the orginally listed dates changed to reflect the true position. Listing NGR: TL6551144994
