Description

1. HAWKEDON THURSTON END 2006 Thurston End Hall TL 75 SE 7/253 19.12.6l. I 2. A fine early C16 timber-framed manor house built circa 1500 and enlarged circa 1607. (A later porch is carved with the date 1607).. The house was extensively and well restored in the C20. It has exposed timber-framing and brick nogging. 2 storeys and attics. (The attics are lit by windows in the gables). At the north end there is a cross wing with double jetties on the east and west gable ends. A 3-storey entrance porch projects on the front with carved lintel and twisted columns. There is a room above the porch and a jettied and gabled attic storey. The jettied storeys are carried on moulded bressumers with brackets and drop finials. The windows are mullioned and transomed casements with lattice leaded lights, many with moulded sills. Two massive red brick chimney breasts project on the west front, one has 4 grouped round shafts with carved ornamentation. Roof tiled. Listing NGR: TL7944851855
