Description

TL 76 SE CHEVINGTON CHURCH ROAD 1/18 Chevington Hall II Farmhouse, mid-C16 with alterations c.1700. 2 storeys, 4 windows. Timber- framed, encased in painted brick at front and sides. Hipped plain-tiled roof with axial chimneys of red brick. C18 mullioned and transomed windows of 4 and 6 lights. Late C18 6-panelled entrance door with architrave and flat canopy. Upon this moated site stood the retreat house of the Abbots of St. Edmunds Abbey from the C13. At the Dissolution, Thomas Kitson of Hengrave Hall bought the estate and built the present house, probably incorporating some framing members from the pre-Dissolution Hall. Re-roofing and other alterations carried out c.1700. Listing NGR: TL7893360198
