Description

TL 85 NE BRADFIELD COMBUST SUDBURY ROAD 5/3 Bradfield Hall 21.2.72 II House, 1857, for Arthur Young, J.P. Asymmetrical composition, in the Victorian Gothic style. 2 storeys, partly with attics. Knapped flint, with bands and quoins of red brick; Flemish parapet gables. Plaintiled roofs with chimneys of red brick; single, double and quadruple circular shafts with heavy moulded caps and bases, on square plinth. Tall casement windows with flat arched heads and chamfered reveals. A circular corner turret with conical roof. 2-storeyed entrance porch with parapet gable; hood-moulded arched doorway with moulded panelled door; a splayed oriel above on brick corbelling. Paved terrace to north and west of house has knapped flint retaining walls and arcaded balustrading of red brick. The house stands immediately east of the moated site of the mediaeval Bradfield Hall.
