Description

Monitoring was undertaken during trenching work associated with the Walpole Sewerage Scheme. At the point where the sewerage pipe trench crossed the floodplain of the River Blyth, a peat deposit and 6 timber piles relating to a possible causeway were encountered. Samples from 3 were submitted for dendrochronological dating, but could not be matched.
