Description

2 small trial trenches excavated through the floor of the detached tower of St Michael's Church, Beccles to evaluate the archaeological potential of any surviving deposits within the body of the tower that may have implications regarding the design of the proposed tourist information facility. Stratified layers exposed relate to successive floor surfaces. Burnt material observed in trench 2, possibly relating to the fire of 1586 in Beccles.
