Description
Archaeological monitoring of small building development (four single storey dwellings), no archaeological features or artefacts were located. The topsoil was at a depth of 0.1-0.3m and consisted of mid-brown sand and clay loam, typical of garden soil. The subsoil, of orange-brown clay was around 0.35-0.5m deep. The natural deposits began with a layer of coarse orange gravel 0.3m deep overlying chalky brown clay which also measured 0.3m in depth. At a depth of c. 1.4m virtually pure chalk was present (S1).
