Description
In March 2006 Archaeological Solutions Ltd carried out three phases of archaeological trial trench evaluation at Hardwick Industrial Estate. Seven trenches were excavated in Phase 1 to a depth of 0.14-1.1m. Six trenches were excavated in Phase 2 to a depth of 0.3-1.28m. Five trenches were excavated in Phase 3 to a depth of 0.1-1m. The variation in deposits observed were the result of variable levels of modern intrusion and ground disturbance. The trial trench evaluation revealed little archaeological evidence. It did however show that modern truncation has not affected the far eastern and western sectors of the site. The southern and northern areas appear to have suffered from modern truncation (S1).
