Description
Nine evaluation trenches were excavated and auguring undertaken in advance of proposals to construct a supermarket. The evaluation provided clear evidence for the reclamation of the back marsh area through deliberate dumping during the latter part of the 19th century. In the southern part of the site a large 20th-century dump had been used to level the area.
