Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on groundworks for an extension to the existing property. A visit was made during the excavation of the footing trenches which measured 0.5m wide and 0.9m deep and were heavily disturbed by modern features. The topsoil measured to a depth of 0.3m and overlay a layer of subsoil that measured from 0.45m to 0.6m deep. The character of the subsoil layer was not unlike the backfill for extraction pits and it is possible that gravel or clay within the natural subsoil had been removed at some point. No further finds or features of archaeological interest were identified (S1).
