Description

Footing observed for extension to the rear of the practice. Revealed a clayey rich topsoil, with small amounts of brick and tile and occassional chalk flecks, overlaying a clean pale yellow/brown clay interpreted as natural subsoil. No archaeological artefacts or features relating to the medieval period or earlier were identified. Two circular brick lined shafts - identified as wells were exposed. Both wells were covered with brick domed brick vaults, one of which had a sqare hole. Both filled with soil, stone and brick rubble. Possibly connected with a pump marked on OS map c. 1900.
