Description
Monitoring of the groundworks for the construction of an extension. Observations were made after the footprint of the proposed extension had already been excavated to between 0.50m and 2.00m. The underlying geology was light yellow brown sandy silt (0.6-1m below ground level) The ground level itself varied as the site was located at the base of a sloping hillside, thus the excavated footprint was deeper (up to 2m) at its north side and shallower at the south end (0.5m). Subsoil was mid reddish brown sandy silt (0.5m deep) and the overlying topsoil was dark greyish brown sandy silt. No archaeological features or finds were revealed (S1).
