Description

A program of archaeological excavation and monitoring was carried out in advance of housing development at 15 Sicklesmere Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The excavation area of c.670sqm was stripped by mechanical excavator to the top of the subsoil or archaeological levels. 0.4m of modern topsoil was removed, then a c.0.3m-0.5m thick deposit of mid brown silty/sand and gravel which lay above the natural orange/brown sand and gravel subsoil (S1).
