Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land at 15 Sicklesmere Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in advance of residential development. 8 trenches were excavated covering 5.2% of the 0.4ha area. The depth of trenching varied from 0.5m to 1.2m, depending on the thickness of modern deposits and topsoil, an underlying layer of mid brown silt/sand and a mixed interface of silt/gravel that in turn lay above the natural orange/brown sand and gravel subsoil (S1).
