Description
A level 3 buildings assessment was undertaken in advance of potential proposals for the redevelopment of the site. Between 1770 and 1828 the site had been a tanyard, after which date it was developed into a silk factory. Following sale in 1882 an ironworks was developed on the site, although silk weaving was revived in the late 1890s. The site was still in use as an ironworks in the early 21st century. Hamlet House is the earliest building on the site, dating from the late 1700s/ early 1800s and retains many of its original features. Other buildings include an early 19th century silk factory, which has been partially reworked. Other buildings date to the late19th/20th centuries.
