Description
Monitoring of foundations for an outbuilding did not reveal any archaeological features or finds. The foundation trenches around the perimeter of the proposed structure plus two north-south foundations within the area were observed giving a total length of some 32m with the width being 600mm. Due to the presence of numerous trees in the area the foundations were excavated to a depth of between 1.6m/1.7m and could not be entered due to the loose nature of the overburden, both recent and natural, which led to various section collapses. In addition ground water was encountered at c1.4m leading to further instability.
