Description

Excavations was undertaken on Land at Crowland Road, Haverhill ahead of the site being redeveloped for social housing. The excavations confirmed the presence of part of a substantial medieval churchyard associated with the earliest parish church of Haverhill. The church was almost certainly of Normal or earlier date, becoming redundant in the 18th century. Some 355 individual graves were excavated with evidence of coffins, pillow stones and possible dress fittings. Churchyard boundary ditches were also identified.
