Site Event/Activity record ESF21112 - Evaluation - Supreme Petfoods, Stone Street, Hadleigh

An archaeological evaluation was carried out at Supreme Petfoods Limited, Stone Street Farm, Stone Street, Hadleigh, in advance of the proposed construction of offices, a weighbridge and a parking area. Two trenches were excavated across the proposed development site but no archaeological features were identified and no artefacts recovered. The natural subsoil consisted of an orange/yellow sand with frequent flint and lay either directly below the topsoil at a depth of c. 0.4m. In the north-east corner of the site a thin masking deposit of probable hillwash was present. In this area the natural subsoil lay at a depth of c. 0.5m.
