Description

Trial trench evaluation was carried out on land at Vinefields Farm, East Close ahead of the redevelopment of the site comprising the construction of 73 residential units and associated access, garaging and public open space (St Edmundsbury Borough Council Planning Ref. SE/11/0368). 18 trenches were excavated. Topsoil was the uppermost layer, dark greyish brown, firm, sandy silt with occasional angular gravel, flint, CBM and glass. It overlay subsoil, a dark reddish brown, soft, silty sand with occasional angular gravel, flint and CBM. Subsoil was not seen in the southern area of the site. The natural drift geology was a mid yellowish red, soft, slightly silty sand with bands and patches of light buff white, compact, chalk marl (S1).
