Description
Evaluation was carried out in advance of a residential development. A total of 10 trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.5m-1m. The natural subsoil consisted of orange/yellow sand and gravel, with increasing silt towards the north-west, where occasional patches of yellow/grey clay were revealed. A rich dark topsoil was present in all trenches overlying a deposit of pale brown sandy silt, which was interpreted as hillwash (S1).
