Description
Three trenches excavated by JCB along the lines of the north, east and south walls of the proposed Child Care Centre. The sections revealed three main layers: 1) a thin (c.8cm) layer of topsoil, 2) a pale brown sandy loam (c.15cm deep)containing chalk flecks, 3) a thicker (c.40cm) layer of soft sand with a dark organic horizon and which gradually became clearer and paler as it neared the subsoil. This layer was interpreted as windblown sand similar to that identified elsewhere over the Base and Brecklands.
No archaeological finds or features recorded.
