Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on the excavation and extension of the existing pond and associated retaining wall foundation trenches. A shallow topsoil strip was carried out initially. This strip indicated that the ground in the north had undergone some reduction in the past. The excavation of the pond covered an roughly circular area of approximately 459msq. The pond had been dredged in the past 30 years. The ground was initially reduced by 1.20m which extended into the natural. The foundation trenches for the new pond retaining wall to the east were excavated to a depth of 3m. The pond was found to have previously extended beyond its existing size and was created in line with the construction of the existing house.
