Description

Evaluation trenching for a single dwelling close to the recorded find spot of a medieval pottery kiln and late Saxon pottery did not reveal any archaeological features or finds at a site which in all likelihood had been open heathland until the area along Sandy Lane saw low density residential development in the 20th century. 2 trenches were dug being between 0.4m-0.5m deep to the locally occuring natural glaciofluvial yellow sand. In both trenches the top 0.1m of the natural yellow sand were removed (S1).
