Description

Several visits to the site over a period of four months. First visit was while a small area in north east and south west corners cleared and pipe trench dug from west to east. Thin sandy soil over yellow sand. 1.10.1991: visit made while footings for one dwelling examined in south west corner of site with one tree root hole. Top soil depth c40cm, possibly formerly ploughed. 17.10.1991: Rainwater drainage system inserted into meadow to north. Sandy ploughsoil on surface overlying clean sound to c.80m below which buried soil. Mostly already backfilled. No artefacts or features seen. 30.10.1991: Road dug at West end. Already laid but no finds topsoil except C19th century platform and gunflint waste. 29.04.1992: Fourteen footings dug out, revealing only unstratified soil which was examined. Revealed only gunflint waste and one flint scraper, possibly prehistoric.
