Description
Evaluation trenching was carried out prior to the proposed construction of nine dwellings and offices on the site. Three of the trenches measured 15m by 1.8m and one was 30m by 1.8m. The trenches were excavated to a maximum depth of 0.58m. Two undated gullies were identified. Topsoil was a friable, dark mid greyish brown silty sand with occasional small, rounded chalk pebble (0.28-0.38m thick). This overlay subsoil, a friable, mid yellow brown silty sand with occasional small, rounded chalk pebble. The natural was a firm, white chalk (0.28-0.69m below the present day ground surface (S1).
