An archaeological desk based assessment was carried out on the land south of Commercial Road, Ipswich, to determine the archaeological potential of the site. The assessment was carried in advance of proposals to develop the site. The assessment was to cover 0.5km of the surrounding area and was supplemented by a site walkover. The site appears to have not been occupied until the 19th century as it lay outside the historic core of Ipswich. The site was occupied by a goods station as part of the Great Eastern Railway from the 1860s (S1).
