Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of proposed mineral extraction on the site. A total of twenty five trial trenches were excavated across the site. A further five trenches were proposed across the western edge of the site, but these could not be excavated due to recent tree plantation in the area. All twenty five trenches measured at 40m by 1.8m in size and were excavated to a depth c.0.40m before encountering natural drift. The evaluation revealed small scale evidence of tree/shrub clearance for agricultural and a ditch/hedge line boundary of recent date. No pre modern finds or features of archaeological interest were identified (S1).
