A small area of graveyards was cleared of burials in preparation for the construction of a north porch extension. The footprint of the new building was excavated to a depth of half a metre below the nave floor, removing over a metre of overburden in places. The overburden comprised a typical cemetery soil, rich in disarticulated bone as a result of re-working over the course of centuries. When features were revealed, they were cleaned manually for definition, planned and photographed (S1).
