Description

Archaeological trial trenche evaluation was carried out in advance of the construction of a new residential development. The dating of features is tentative due to small occurences of pottery and other finds. 78 features were recorded mostly linears with a few discretes. 55 trenches were excavated, each measuring 40mx1.8m. Some trenches were relocated slightly for practical reasons. Three trenches were divided into two or three. Uppermost was topsoil, a mid brownish grey, friable, silty sand with occasional flint. Below was subsoil, a dark brown/orange, loose, sand with sparse flint. Below was the natural, a mid orange brown, loose, sand and gravel (S1).
