Description
A detailed gluxgate gradiometer survey was carried out immediately adjacent to the woodland on Top Hat Field. Two small areas chosen to site a new viewing platform for the burial mounts in the adjacent field were to be prospected for anomalies of archaeological origin. The detailed fluxgate gradiometer survey was successful in recording a range of magnetic disturbance associated with a silage pit and metalled pathways used by visitors to the attraction. No geophysical anomalies of likely archaeological were prospected in the two small survey areas. Earth resistance meter survey was also trialled to determine whether the instrument could be used on the geological underfoot, however the dry sandy conditions proved unsuitable for survey (S1).
