Description
157 trenches were excvated on arable land and school grounds prior to the development of infrastructure facilities, sports pitches and drainage management features. Each trench measure 30m x 1.8m. The topsoil was at a fairly consistent depth of 0.3-0.4m in all the trenches. Where a subsoil horixon was present it typically consisted of varying depths of mid brownish-orange sandy-silt. In the South Field and Southern School Field a relatively shallow pale-mid grey silt subsoil was also recorded. Underlying these deposits was chalk, frequently scarred with solution channels and plough marks.
