Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out for a new car park at Elveden Forest Centre Parcs. No archaeological features or finds were identified. It appeared that previous large scale movement of soil occurred across the area. Burried topsoil was identified along the south east limit of the area, covered by a landscaping bund, resulting from previous stripping of the site. Also exposed were the edges of what were assumed to be large pits filled with sandy marerial against the southern edge. Late 19th century maps of the area allow them to be identified as clay pits which were likely already out of use but still visible at that time. These were exposed and no finds were recovered (S1).
