Description

Evaluation was carried out ahead of the development of a new residential dwelling. Two trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.5-0.7m. Trench 1 contained no archaeological features. Trench 2 contained a ditch and medieval pottery. Topsoil was a firm, dark grey brown, clayey silt with occasional flint which overlay subsoil which was a firm, dark orange brown, silty clay with occasional flints. The subsoil overlay the natural dposits which was a firm, light brownish orange, silty clay with flints and occasional small flecks of chalk throughout (S1).
