Description

2017: An archaeological excavation was undertaken at Site 25b as part of the East Anglia ONE (EA1) Offshore Windfarm at Land South Top Street, Martlesham. The site comprised a corridor approximately 210m long by 24m wide, and occupied an area of c.0.66ha. The site was over two agricultural fields, formerly under arable cultivation. Trial-trench evaluation of the site in 2016 recorded a topsoil of mid-brown silty sand with gravel, typically with a depth of 0.40m; with a subsoil of mid-orangey brown silty sand with no inclusions, and a thickness of 0.10-0.20m. The subsoil overlay a natural substrate of yellow mottled sand with yellow clay. (S1)
