Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the excavation of footing trenches and ground reduction for a cart lodge. The small strip foundation trench (0.5m wide) and c. 27m long in total had been excavated to a depth of 1.45m. No archaeological finds or features were recorded, despite the potentially sensitive location of the works. Examination of the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map demonstrates that for at least the last century this part of the site appears to have seen some stability as part of the gardens and, given that the present build of the house is substantively 16th century in date, it is probable that it has not seen any other use (S1).
