Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken. 48 trial trenches out of a specified 51 trenches were machine excavated within four fields; 22 trenches contained archaeological features. All machine excavated trenches measured approx 50mx1.8m with exception of two trenches. Three trenches were not machine excavated. All trenches comprised topsoil c0.2-0.4m thick. The topsoil overlay a subsoil horizon c0.2-0.5m thick in Fields 1,2,3,4. Underneath was the geological horizon which varied throughout the site. Field 1 comprised a sandy deposit. Field 2,3,4 comprised clay with flint and patches of sand (S1).
