Description
Monitoring of the excavation of foundation trenches for a single dwelling revealed a substantial depth of top and subsoil and while no archaeological features, save two pits of recent date, were identified single shers of Roman, Medieval and 16th century pottery were recovered from the upcast spoil. 50m of 0.6m wide and 1m deep foundation trenches were excavated follwing the removal of 0.2m of topsoil. The deposit profile revealed on the nothernside of the footprint area 0.3m of mid brown sandy subsoil which lay over 0.2/0.2fm of a darker brown sandy depsoit over 0.3/0.4m of mid brown sandy subsoil (S1).
