Description
Evaluation on land behind 18 High Street ahead of the development of a single house. A single evaluation trench was excavated and was machined to a depth of 0.85m dropping to 1.3m towards the south east. Soft natural chalk was exposed along the entire length of trench. A mixed layer of topsoil and gravel overlay a central layer of dark almost black sandy loam which included coal fragments. This overlay a layer of yellow gravel which inturn overlay the natural chalk. In the south-east section of the trench a gravel and rubble layer was seen (S1).
