Description

Negative archaeolgical monitoring. Two internal trenches, each c.1.5m long and OAm deep, were inspected directly in front of an existing partition wall. The existing footing was constructed on top of a homogenous pale brown soft sand c. 200mm thick which sealed a mid brown silty sand flecked with charcoal and mortar in the base of the trench. This no more than 50mm thick, revealing a pale brown sand beneath, probably of natural origin. No features were observed in either trench. The external footings had been excavated to a depth of c.1m. A dark brown sandy loam topsoil, c.0.4m thick, sealed a pale brown soft silty sand subsoil similar to that observed internally.
