Description
A desk based assesment was carried out for the site at Oak Hill Lane, which revealed that the site is located over a large quarry, probably of 18th or 19th century date. Any earlier archaeology that might have survived on the site would have been destroyed by this feature. Oak Hill House was constructed in the middle of the 19th century for the Goddards, an influential family associated with Victorian Ipswich. By the 1880s glass houses and a pond associated with Oak Hill House were located on the site. No archaeological fieldwork was conducted due to the highly disturbed nature of the location (S1).
