Description
Archaeological evaluation of thirty two trenches were excavated across the site targeting geophysicial anomalies ahead of residential development. All the trenches were 50mx2m and were excavated through a layer of mid greyish brown topsoil between 0.25m-0.4m thick. The trenches located in the southern parts of the site also had a layer yellowish-brown to reddish brown sand subsoil between 0.15m-0.3m thick. The natural geology across the site was variable, the trenches in the north and north-west of the evaluation were excavated onto chalk, whilst those in the south were excavated onto sand and gravels (S1).
