Description

Trial trench evaluation was carried out for Flagship Housing Trust ahead of proposals for a new residential development. A single trench was placed in the garden of each of the two properties at 21-24 Old Post Office Lane. Trench 1 was located in the garden of number 24 and contained no archaeological evidence. Trench 2 was located in the garden of number 21 and revealed two post-holes post-medieval to modern date, several modern pet burials and natural hollows/tree holes. The topsoil in trench 1 was moderately loose mid-pale brown soft sandy silt btween 0.46-0.51m deep. Topsoil in Trench 2 was dark-mid brown, soft sandy silt c0.34m deep. The subsoil was orangy brown silty sand c0.11-0.28m thick. The natural was very pale brown orange yellow soft sand (S1).
