Description
A second phase of archaeological evaluation was carried out on land to the rear of Thingoe House. The second state was undertaken after planning permission had been secured and followed the demolition of the redundant office block, which enabled areas to be sampled that were previously unavailable. Engineering test holes were also monitored. The site lies across a steep incline and the former office block was constructed on a level platform terraced into the side of the slope suggestion it was likely to have truncated the underlying archaeological levels. The principal aim of the evaluation was to establish the extent of the truncation and determine if any archaeological deposits survived in this area. Trenches to supplement the first phased evaluation trenches were also excavated to examine fully the proposed building footprint (S1).
