Description

2017: An archaeological evaluation by means of trenching was undertaken in advance of a small residential development. Six trenches measuring 10.00m x 2.00m were excavated across the site to sample 5% of the proposed development site. On the 18th of December 2017 monitoring was carried out on the excavation of infiltration pits across the site to test the compaction of the natural geology. A total of 6 test pits were excavated. Topsoil was present to a maximum depth of 0.25m. Subsoil was present to a maximum depth of 0.73m. The natural geology was a mid yellow-brown and blue-grey, compact chalky clay. Demolition and levelling layers were recorded across the central area of the site assoicated with the recently demolished buildings. (S1)
