Description
Five trial trenches were excavated, spaced evenly along the line of the proposed works. While the infilled channel was identified, no significant earlier archaeological or palaeoenvironmental features were found. The sequences in Trenches 1 to 4 were broadly similar, with the deposits within the trenches either being
natural deposits or being the fill of the former ‘Quilter era’ channel.
Monitoring of construction activity did not identify any archaeological features or artefacts but some evidence for ground conditions and deposit sequence was obtained.
