Description
Evaluation was undertaken on the Naunton Hall Estate in Rendlesham to test the character and degree of preservation of the subsoil archaeology in two fields that had previously been subject to intensive metal-detecting and geophysical survey. Seven trenches were excavated in autumn 2013 and spring 2014 in two fields: 4 trenches at RLM 055 (Sand Walk field RLM 044 north of the hall) and 3 trenches at RLM 054 ( in Park Field, south of the hall). The results of the trenching correlated closely with the magnetometry results. Much of the fieldwork was conducted by members of Suffolk Archaeological Field Group, volunteers and finds and samples processing was carried out by SAFG and ALHAS (S1).
