Description

Excavation, following DBA, geophysical survey and evaluation, was carried out at Rosary Field in advance of the construction of onshore infrastructure for the Greater Gabbard Wind Farm. Two areas were stripped and excavated. The larger area (3700sqm) was in the south-east corner of the field alongside the junction with Sandy Lane and the smaller (1600sqm) was located near the est field boundary. The westernmost area was completed first, to enable the temporary access road to the substation site (Broom Covert) and the preliminary infrustructure works to be completed whilst the main excavation was ongoing. The modern ploughing of the light soils has impacted heavily on the site and outside the lines of the channel had been removed almost all evidence of the medieval ground levels and truncated the subsoil surface (S1).
