Description
Monitoring of stripped area adjacent to the building of 66 Nethergate street. At the time of the visit, the extension footprint had been stripped to its required formation level, removing between c.0.9m of overburden along the road frontage and 0.1m at the NE end of the site. This compristed 0.4m of modern disturbance/topsoil, sealing a dark reddish brown silty sand subsoil to the full depth of the strip. This was a quite sterile layer in which no artefactual evidence or archaeological interventions were noted. The natural subsoil was not exposed within the monitored groundworks (S1).
