Description
Monitoring of building footings in Northgate Business Park on the west side of Cotton Lane frontage revealed deep deposits representing post-medieval and modern surfaces and a soil layer dating to the medieval period. Two brief visits were made during the initial site strip, a depth of c.0.3-0.5m was removed from the surface of the entire building footprint. A two further visits were carried out during the excavation for the footings of the building. The southern and eastern footing trenches were accessible but the northern and western trenches were too deep and the sides too unstable to be safely enteres so all work on these was done from the side of the trench (S1).
